Want to create Rock Star PowerPoint Presentations? Here are 4 Chart Smashing Tips.

Powerpoint PresentationsIn the business world, PowerPoint presentations are commonly used to communicate ideas. A successful PowerPoint presentation gets the message across in a short time period, however, creating a short, yet appealing presentation isn’t always easy to do. Here’s a few tips to help you make your next PowerPoint presentation more appealing to the audience:
1.     Organize Your Presentation

A PowerPoint presentation should be organized, which means you’ll need to plan your presentation prior to creating it. Start by brainstorming a few key topics, then separate the topics into subtopics.

2.     Create Slides for Subtopics

The primary purpose of a PowerPoint presentation is to provide content to the audience. This content should be appealing, but not distracting from the main points of the presentation. Here’s a couple tips to help you create effective slides for each subtopic:

  • Limit Text: A presentation doesn’t require full sentences or paragraphs on each slide. Use short sentences and phrases to avoid clutter and get straight to the point.
  • Limit Images and Graphs: Your audience should be focused on the main points of the presentation. Limit the amount of images and graphs to avoid distracting the audience.

Also, it’s important to use templates sparingly. Often, templates provide more space than necessary for a short presentation. Instead, think about the subtopic of each slide and create the slide with enough room to display the message.

3.     Edit Your Presentation

Once you’ve finished your slides, go back and edit the presentation. Also, consider how you’re going to present the slides. Are you going to use a voiceover or memorize the presentation and speak about each subtopic? It’s better to use a voiceover, in order to avoid forgetting important aspects of the presentation or reading directly from the slides.

4.     Teach the Audience

A presentation should teach your audience something important. If the audience doesn’t learn anything, the presentation is essentially pointless. The first part of your presentation should present a problem and the middle part of your presentation should provide information to solve the problem. At the end, the audience should feel like they’ve learned something and have a better understanding of the solution.
